Hyderabad: Telangana is becoming a hub for IT and pharma in the country. The Finance and Health Minister, T Harish Rao, stated that the state, which produces the highest number of doctors, is also aiming to become a hub for medical tourism. He made these remarks during the HMTV Healthcare awards, where he addressed a gathering of doctors.
The Minister highlighted the efforts of the government in establishing healthcare infrastructure, including training facilities for nursing and paramedical staff across the state. He also mentioned that the government is now better prepared to handle not only the coronavirus but also any future pandemics, with the establishment of oxygen generation plants.
Harish Rao shared that state-run hospitals have seen a significant increase in deliveries, reaching 76.3%, indicating that they are now on par with private hospitals, which have a 23% share. He also praised NIMS for conducting 100 kidney transplants within six months, along with several liver and heart transplants.
The City of Hyderabad has gradually become a hub for medical tourism, attracting patients not only from other states but also from other countries. The Minister expressed his confidence in Telangana’s ability to produce around 10,000 doctors annually, contributing to the state’s growth as a medical hub.
The Minister commended HMTV for recognizing the efforts of doctors, believing that such recognition would inspire them to serve with greater enthusiasm. MP Kotha Prabhakar Reddy also expressed his appreciation for the award program and hoped for more such initiatives in the future. A total of 300 doctors received awards in various categories, including “top 10 public health saviours” and “emerging women doctors,” as well as recognition for doctors from different districts.
