A powerful thunderstorm hit western Hyderabad early Thursday morning, bringing heavy rain and bright lightning. The storm caused flooding and chaos in the city.
Starting around 3 a.m., the rain quickly submerged low-lying areas like Gachibowli, Serilingampally, Lingampally, and Nallagandla. Many residents turned to social media to share their experiences, with posts describing the lightning as so intense it woke them up and the storm as continuous explosions.
By 4:15 a.m., the storm eased, but streets remained flooded. In Serilingampally, water covered the road from the Revenue Office to BHEL, making it difficult for two-wheelers to pass. Vehicles heading to Doyens Colony via the Road Under Bridge at Lingampally faced traffic jams due to the water. Major roads in Gachibowli also experienced heavy traffic.
Aditya Sharma, an IT professional in Gachibowli, shared how the storm affected his day. His cook canceled due to the flooding, leaving him without breakfast. Fortunately, his drive to work on the Miyapur-Gachibowli route was smoother by midday.
The storm’s timing was unfortunate as it coincided with schools reopening. Flooded streets and traffic changes led to confusion and traffic jams, as parents and school buses tried alternative routes.
Cyberabad traffic police reported that National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams were on standby in flood-prone areas and ready to respond around the clock.
While those working from home or leaving later avoided most issues, early commuters faced significant disruptions due to Hyderabad’s latest monsoon storm.
