Asifabad has been experiencing severe weather conditions as heavy rainfalls have disrupted daily life for two days. From Friday evening to Saturday morning, the district recorded 25.9 mm of rain.
The downpour has caused streams and canals to overflow, isolating many villages. Residents are facing significant challenges as rainwater floods lower-lying areas. Cotton fields have been submerged, resulting in crop damage.
In Asifabad mandal, both the Chinna Rajura and Thumpalli streams have overflowed, halting traffic in several villages. Similarly, the Mettupalli stream in Kagaznagar mandal is dangerously high. District SP Kantilal Rana visited the site and instructed police officials on necessary actions.
Meanwhile, in Kerameri mandal, the Anarapalli stream has flooded, causing further traffic disruptions and concern among villagers.
Continuous rains have led to 52,600 cu sec of water entering the Kumaram Bheem project. Authorities released 52,100 cu sec of water by lifting the gates. Additionally, 9,600 cu sec of water entered the Vati Vagu project, prompting officials to open four gates, releasing 10,800 cu sec of water.
Local authorities have issued warnings to communities downstream. The heavy rains have rendered level bridges across the district hazardous.
