Hyderabad: The recent heavy rains have brought some relief from the heat for the people of Hyderabad, but they have also caused serious damage to the city’s roads. In many parts of the city, roads have been badly damaged or are filled with potholes. This has made driving risky and difficult for commuters.

As soon as people step out of their homes, they are greeted by large potholes on the roads. Whether in residential areas or on main roads, people are being forced to take longer routes to reach their destinations. Many road users are asking the authorities to urgently repair the roads and improve their quality.

The rains have caused significant inconvenience, especially for motorists. Poorly maintained roads, damaged manholes, stagnant water, uncollected garbage, and unfinished roadworks are making it hard for commuters. In some cases, these issues have led to accidents.

One of the worst-hit areas is the Uppal stretch, where ongoing flyover construction has turned the entire area into a dirt patch. Large potholes are scattered across the road, making it difficult for commuters to pass through. Another badly affected area is the stretch between Nehru Zoological Park and Aramgarh, which has become even worse after the rains. Many other areas in the city are facing similar problems.

Neighborhoods like Kapra, Serilingampally, Nizampet, Uppal, Jubilee Hills, Banjara Hills, Kukatpally, Khairatabad, Ameerpet, Nampally, Tolichowki, Langar Houz, Film Nagar, and Shaikpet are all filled with potholes. This has made driving in these areas hazardous.

“Roads in the city have become dangerous to drive on due to the rainfall. The blacktopping has been washed away, leaving behind large potholes everywhere,” said Dilip Jain, a commuter from Madhapur.

Both the new and old parts of the city have been affected by the rain. Areas in the Old City, such as Moghalpura, Chaderghat, Shalibanda, Falaknuma, Malakpet, Chandrayangutta, and Aghapura, are also in bad shape.

“Driving on many roads in the city has become a nightmare,” said Mohammed Ahmed, a resident of the Old City.

The poor drainage system is making the situation even worse. Water is pooling on the roads, which not only attracts mosquitoes but also increases the risk of mosquito-borne diseases. The uncollected garbage adds to the unsanitary conditions in these areas.

Residents are demanding that the civic authorities take immediate action to fix the poor infrastructure. They pointed out that in areas where new flyovers are being built, and other construction work is ongoing, the condition of the roads has gone from bad to worse.
