Nagarjuna Sagar is experiencing significant water inflow, causing the reservoir to nearly fill up. To handle the steady increase in floodwaters, authorities have opened 20 crest gates to release water downstream.
Officials stated that most crest gates have been raised by 5 feet, with 2 gates lifted by 10 feet to control the excess water. This adjustment allows approximately 209,632 cusecs of water to flow downstream.
The full reservoir level (FRL) is 590 feet, and the current water level stands at 585.10 feet. The reservoir can hold 312.0450 TMCs, and the current storage is 296.7235 TMCs.
Hydropower production is ongoing at the Nagarjuna Sagar hydroelectric station, taking advantage of the strong water flow. Officials are keeping a close watch on the situation to manage the inflows and ensure the safety of the dam and areas downstream.
