Hyderabad Metro Rail is set to expand faster after the Telangana cabinet approved funds for land acquisition. This decision was made during a cabinet meeting held on Sunday, January 18, in Medaram, marking the first time such a meeting occurred outside Hyderabad.
The cabinet has allocated Rs 2787 crore for the second phase of the metro expansion. Additionally, the state government plans to take control of the first phase from L&T.
In the same meeting, the cabinet agreed to proceed with municipal elections in the state.
Union Minister G Kishan Reddy recently urged Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy to expedite the takeover of the first phase from Larsen and Toubro. This move is crucial for starting the second phase of the metro project.
The minister emphasized the need for the state to quickly assume control of the first phase and send proposals for the second phase to the central government. The central government has already shown preliminary approval for the second phase, provided the first phase’s takeover is completed and joint committee coordination begins.
With the cabinet’s approval for land acquisition funds, the metro expansion is expected to progress more rapidly.
