A major food safety operation in Kukatpally, Hyderabad led to the seizure of 1,000 kilograms of raw onions and 70 kilograms of fried onions from Naseeb Biryani restaurant after authorities discovered severe hygiene violations. The raid was conducted following a tip-off from the Special Operations Team (SOT) police, which prompted immediate intervention by the Food Safety team. The establishment has been officially sealed pending further investigation into the alarming practices uncovered during the inspection.

Inspectors discovered that the restaurant was routinely procuring and reusing used cooking oil to prepare large batches of fried onions, a practice that poses significant health risks to consumers. The highly unhygienic conditions found in the kitchen raised serious concerns about food safety standards at the establishment. Authorities took swift action to prevent contaminated food items from reaching the public, destroying the seized onions on site to eliminate any potential health hazards.

During the raid, approximately 480 kilograms of suspect cooking oil was seized from the premises. The cooking oil samples have been sent to a laboratory for detailed chemical analysis to verify the extent of adulteration and determine whether the oil had been previously used and recycled. The reuse of cooking oil is a serious violation of food safety norms as it can lead to the formation of harmful compounds that pose health risks including cardiovascular diseases and other ailments.

The food safety team documented the unhygienic conditions throughout the kitchen area, which included improper storage practices and lack of basic sanitation measures. The discovery of such large quantities of potentially contaminated ingredients suggests that the restaurant may have been engaging in these unsafe practices for an extended period. The authorities are now investigating how long these violations had been occurring and how many customers may have been affected.
