Hyderabad is preparing for more rain as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued weather alerts for parts of North Telangana. Heavy rain started on Tuesday night and continued into Wednesday morning, causing flooding in some low-lying areas. Residents are advised to stay indoors and be cautious.
A red alert, indicating severe rainfall, has been declared for districts like Mulugu, Jayashankar Bhupalapally, Komaram Bheem Asifabad, and Mancherial. These areas have experienced continuous heavy rain, with Venkatapuram in Mulugu recording over 203 millimeters.
Nearby districts, such as Warangal, Hanamkonda, Karimnagar, Jagitial, and Bhadradri Kothagudem, are on an orange alert. Rainfall is expected to intensify through the night and into Wednesday morning.
In Hyderabad, the city has avoided the heaviest showers so far, but the IMD predicts more rain for North Telangana. Intense rain is expected in most parts of the city for a couple of hours, followed by a light drizzle from 2 AM into the early morning.
For the next seven days, Hyderabad will likely remain cloudy, with temperatures between 30-32 degrees Celsius. While Wednesday is set for heavy rain, the following days should see lighter rain and clouds, offering some relief.
Emergency services and IMD relief teams are on standby, coordinating with the GHMC to enhance dewatering and pumping in flood-prone areas. Residents are urged to avoid unnecessary travel, especially between 2 and 7 AM, and to evacuate low-lying homes if water levels rise.
