Hyderabad: Broken drinking water pipelines are becoming a serious and ongoing problem in the central and northern parts of Hyderabad. Many residents say they have complained to the Hyderabad Water Board, but the issue still hasn’t been fixed. Locals are now asking for the old pipelines to be replaced completely.
The problem is common in areas like Tolichowki, Neredmet, Nizampet, Manikonda, Jubilee Hills, Punjagutta, Banjara Hills, Moula Ali, and Malkajgiri. People living in these areas are worried because the temperatures are rising, and many bore wells have dried up. The damaged water pipelines are making things worse by reducing water pressure. Most of these pipelines are very old and haven’t been replaced in decades, which leads to frequent leaks.
Ramesh, a resident of Moula Ali, said, “In many areas, especially Moula Ali, the water pipes are rusty and old. They keep leaking, and even when repairs are done, they are only temporary fixes. The only real solution is to replace the entire pipeline.”
Robin, who lives in Neredmet, shared a similar concern. He said, “Water pipeline breakages happen often in Defence Colony, Neredmet. Bore wells aren’t providing enough water anymore because the groundwater is going down. If these leaks continue, we could face a serious water shortage. The Water Board needs to replace the old pipelines.”
Mohammed Ali from Tolichowki added, “We’ve had a broken water pipe overflowing for a whole month. The street is always wet and slippery, which makes it hard for people to walk or drive. On top of that, the water pressure is very low. We’ve complained to the water board many times, but nothing has been done.”
Residents across these neighborhoods are urging officials to take immediate action and replace the aging water pipelines to avoid a bigger crisis.
