In Hyderabad, there are special teams called SHE Teams that work to keep women safe in public places and during transit. These teams dress in plain clothes and regularly patrol crowded and secluded areas where women may be at risk of harassment or teasing. If they witness any such incidents, they capture video evidence and register cases against the culprits.
During the Ganesh festivities in 2023, the She teams were deployed to monitor the Ganesh pandals and other crowded areas. They caught people in the act of engaging in obscene behavior, touching women inappropriately, or following them. They recorded video evidence of these incidents.
In just three days, the teams caught 55 cases of harassment at the Bada Ganesh in Khairatabad. These incidents occurred when women were participating in devotional activities and moving in crowded queues. The perpetrators took advantage of the situation to engage in inappropriate behavior.
The individuals involved in these incidents come from various professions, including auto drivers, private employees, and even government employees. They have been causing embarrassment to women by touching them inappropriately and making lewd comments or gestures. Relevant cases have been registered against them, and they have been counseled before being produced in court.
In addition to these cases, one person named Shyam Bihari Mahto was caught under suspicious circumstances. He was found to be in possession of four stolen mobile phones. He was handed over to the Khairatabad Police Station for further action.
If anyone experiences harassment or teasing, they can reach out to the She Teams through the Hyderabad City Police Whatsapp number: 9490616555. In case of emergencies, they should dial 100.
