Hyderabad is in for a cool and stormy change, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The city and much of Telangana can expect ongoing rain and thunderstorms through the end of May, signaling the end of the scorching summer.
On May 12, Hyderabad reached a high of 37.2°C, which was 2.6 degrees lower than the average for this time of year. The next morning, temperatures dropped to 25.4°C, also slightly below normal. The city received 0.1 mm of rain during the 24-hour period ending on the morning of May 13.
The week ahead looks cloudy and stormy. The IMD predicts daily chances of thunderstorms, rain, and even dust storms. Daytime temperatures will likely stay between 34°C and 37°C, while nights will be cooler, around 24°C to 26°C.
This drop in temperature is unusual for May, which is typically one of the hottest months. Weather experts now say the region is shifting toward conditions more typical of the rainy season.
Starting from May 13, Hyderabad and other areas in Telangana could see intense storms almost every day. The good news is that temperatures are expected to stay well below the 40°C mark across the state.
Meteorologists are also watching for signs of an early arrival of monsoon-like weather. If the current trend continues, Telangana might see its first wave of monsoon conditions by the end of May — possibly earlier than ever before.
