Hyderabad: The city experienced heavy rainfall for the second day in a row on Friday. This caused waterlogging, overflowing drains, and traffic problems in many parts of Hyderabad.

After the rain, traffic slowed down in several areas of the city. Places like Lakdikapul, Mehdipatnam, Tolichowki, Ameerpet, and Khairtabad towards Pujjagutta saw slow movement of vehicles. Other areas such as LB Nagar, Vanasthalipuram, Jubilee Hills, Tarnaka, Secunderabad, Kukatpally, Hitech City, Gachibowli, and Khajaguda also faced similar traffic jams, especially in the IT corridor.

The rain created major issues in areas like LB Nagar, Vanasthalipuram, Chintal, and Tarnaka. Roads were flooded, and overflowing drains added to the problems. Many bikes and cars in LB Nagar and Vanasthalipuram were submerged, making it difficult for motorists to move around.

According to the Telangana Planning and Development Society (TGDPS), by 7 pm, Patancheru recorded 61.5 mm of rainfall, Quthbullapur recorded 45.8 mm, and Golconda recorded 42.8 mm.

Earlier, on Thursday, after heavy rain in the city, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) in Hyderabad predicted light to moderate rain and thundershowers with occasional intense spells for both Friday and Saturday.

The weather department also forecasted that all zones, including Charminar, Khairatabad, Kukatpally, LB Nagar, Secunderabad, and Serilingampally, would likely experience a cloudy sky for the next five days, along with continued light to moderate rainfall and thunderstorms.

GHMC’s Disaster Response Force (DRF) teams were busy clearing waterlogged roads, while traffic police managed the traffic to ensure the free flow of vehicles.

Officials have cautioned residents to stay alert due to the possibility of more adverse weather conditions. The DRF team has also requested commuters to call 040-21111111 or 9000113667 for assistance with any rain-related issues.
