A woman from Mallepally, identified as K Sony—also known by the names Shahanaz Begum and Rosy—has been arrested by Chikkadpally police for allegedly robbing a GHMC contract sweeper earlier this year.
The accused, 36 years old, has a criminal record. Police revealed she had been arrested in connection with four similar theft cases in the past.
The most recent incident occurred in January 2025. According to investigators, Sony convinced the GHMC worker to accompany her to a toddy compound, where she allegedly got the victim drunk. Once the victim was intoxicated, Sony stole cash and jewelry, including both gold and silver items.
Following the victim’s complaint, police reviewed footage from over 50 CCTV cameras in and around the area. Their investigation led to Sony’s identification and arrest.
Officers recovered the stolen items from her possession. The case is still being investigated as authorities look into whether she may have targeted other victims in similar crimes.
