Nagarjuna Sagar is experiencing a large increase in floodwater from upstream. This rise is bringing the reservoir near its maximum capacity. As a result, officials have started generating hydroelectric power. They are currently producing 712 megawatts of electricity.
Reports indicate that water inflow into the reservoir has reached 2.022 lakh cusecs (202,200 cusecs). Meanwhile, the outflow through canals is 3.2 lakh cusecs (320,000 cusecs). This helps in managing water effectively and controlling floods. The Full Reservoir Level (FRL) is 590 feet. Presently, the water level stands at 580.20 feet, showing that it is nearing full capacity but not yet at the limit.
Officials are watching the situation carefully. They are ensuring both power generation and irrigation needs are met while following safety measures. The continuous inflow and energy production are set to benefit downstream power and agricultural sectors.
