Kamareddy: A village in Kamareddy district of Telangana has reported a serious incident involving suspected spurious liquor. Around 30 people in Gauraram village, located in Gandhari Mandal, fell ill after drinking illicit toddy, also known as “kallu.”
The villagers were celebrating a local festival that included traditional wrestling matches. During the event, many people consumed toddy. Soon after, several began to feel unwell. They showed symptoms like dizziness, vomiting, confusion, and some even behaved unusually, causing concern among their families and others nearby.
Out of the 30 affected, six people are in critical condition. They have been moved to a larger hospital for better medical care. Health officials and police quickly arrived at the village to start an investigation into what caused the problem.
Authorities believe the toddy may have been mixed with dangerous chemicals, which are sometimes used in making fake liquor. Samples of the drink have been collected and sent to a lab for testing.
The incident has upset many residents and local activists. They are demanding stronger action against those who make and sell illegal alcohol. People are also questioning how safe such celebrations are when there is poor regulation.
Officials have promised to take strict steps and catch those behind the sale of the adulterated toddy. Health warnings have also been issued in nearby villages, advising people to avoid drinking unlicensed alcoholic beverages.
This is not the first time such an incident has happened in Kamareddy district, adding to growing concerns about the spread of illegal liquor and its dangerous effects on public health.
