The Nagarjuna Sagar Project is currently experiencing a large inflow of floodwater due to heavy rains in the upstream areas. To manage the increasing water levels, the authorities have lifted 8 of the dam’s gates by 5 feet. This action has resulted in the release of 64,636 cusecs of water downstream.
At present, the reservoir is receiving an inflow of 1,55,845 cusecs, while the outflow has reached 72,845 cusecs. Officials are closely monitoring the situation to ensure that the release of water is controlled to prevent flooding in downstream areas.
The Nagarjuna Sagar Project is very important for providing water for irrigation, drinking, and generating electricity. Proper water management is especially important during the monsoon season when water inflows are higher. Authorities have advised people living in downstream areas to stay alert and take necessary precautions in case there is a further increase in the water release.
