Hyderabad: A new system has been launched to improve the quality of infrastructure projects across India. The Construction Quality Rating Agency (CQRA), in partnership with the Construction Industry Development Council (CIDC), has introduced the country’s first-ever Quality Assessment and Grading System for Infrastructure Projects.
This new system will help check and grade the quality of major projects such as roads, bridges, metro systems, ports, and railways. It uses a scientific and standard method to ensure better construction, more transparency, and greater accountability in the sector.
To carry out inspections, the system uses advanced tools like mobile apps and random sampling. Each check is recorded with time-stamped photos or videos that are geo-tagged, which means the location is marked. Any problems found are sorted into three categories—mild, moderate, or severe—based on how serious and how often they occur.
CIDC has also suggested that the main infrastructure projects be graded every three months. The grading will be based on four important areas:
1. Resource Quality – This checks if the materials and equipment used in the project meet the required standards.
2. Process Quality – This looks at how the construction is being done and whether proper controls are in place on the site.
3. Finished Product Quality – This tests the strength and performance of the completed project.
4. Quality Management System (QMS) – This examines how well the project is planned, how the site is organized, and how roles and responsibilities are managed.
The grading system is designed to help developers, investors, and government officials take necessary actions to improve quality where needed.
Speaking about the new system, Mr. Ujwal Kunte, Founder and Managing Director of CQRA, said, “We are proud to launch this system with CIDC. It’s a big step in making sure our infrastructure meets top-quality standards.”
Dr. P. R. Swarup, Director General of CIDC, added, “This system brings global-level checking methods to India. It will help our projects not just meet but go beyond international quality standards. This is an important move to make India a leader in world-class infrastructure.”
