Wanaparthi District: A team from New Delhi visited Wanaparthi on Saturday to review government welfare programs. They focused on how drinking and irrigation water is provided and its quality.
This visit was part of a series by the Central Government through NITI Aayog to assess the Jal Jeevan Mission Abhiyan. The team was the 28th in this initiative. They aimed to evaluate the program’s field-level impact and deliver a detailed report.
The delegation was led by NITI Aayog Deputy Secretary Arvind Kumar, with support from Central Water Commission Deputy Director Arun Kumar and Central Ground Water Board Scientist P. Yadav.
District Collector Adarsh Surabhi welcomed the team. At the Collectorate, they held a meeting where a presentation showcased the drinking water policy under Mission Bhagiratha and discussed solutions to existing challenges.
Deputy Secretary Arvind Kumar highlighted that the central and state governments are collaborating on programs to advance India by 2047. His visit aimed to understand the implementation of these programs in Wanaparthi and report on the region’s progress over two days.
He inspected sites like Achyutapur, Qasim Nagar, the Kanayapalli Fresh Water Purification Center, and the Rajiv Bhima Lift Irrigation 2nd Canal. The purpose was to assess drinking water provision, quality standards, and issue resolution.
District Collector Adarsh Surabhi stated that every household receives clean water in Wanaparthi, with overhead tanks cleaned thrice monthly. Significant water is available for irrigation, supplemented by rain and river flows. The Rural Development Department implements water conservation, watershed projects, rooftop harvesting, and indus pits to boost groundwater. Bore wells are prepared for summer water issues.
Participants included Additional Collector Local Bodies In-charge Yadayya, Mission Bhagiratha S. E. Venkataramana, Irrigation S. I. Srinivas Reddy, Mission Bhagiratha E. E. Megha Reddy, P.D. DRDO Umadevi, and other district officials.
