Hyderabad: Union Minister and Telangana BJP President G Kishan Reddy criticized Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy’s protest in Delhi. He said the protest, held near Jantar Mantar and focused on BC (Backward Classes) reservations, is just a way to avoid actually implementing the promised 42% reservation for BCs.

Kishan Reddy questioned why Revanth Reddy is blaming the central government for not implementing a promise made by the Congress party during elections. He asked, “If increasing BC reservations is not in your power, then why did you promise it?”

He accused the Chief Minister of staging a drama to escape from fulfilling the promise. According to Kishan Reddy, Congress has always opposed BC reservations. He said the first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, blocked BC reservations, and Indira Gandhi also prevented their implementation. He added that Rajiv Gandhi opposed the Mandal Commission’s recommendations in Parliament, and claimed Rahul Gandhi also holds negative views about BCs.

Kishan Reddy claimed that Revanth Reddy only passed the 42% BC reservation bill due to public pressure, especially from the BC community. He also pointed out that although the Congress had promised to spend ₹20,000 crore every year for BC welfare (which totals ₹1 lakh crore over five years), the budget allocations so far do not reflect this promise.

The Union Minister praised the Modi government for its efforts toward BC welfare. He said that the Modi government gave constitutional status to the BC National Commission and has been strictly implementing BC reservations in education and jobs.

He also mentioned that scholarships for BC students have been increased and several schemes have been launched to support self-employment. As a result, the representation of BCs in education, jobs, and politics has improved significantly, he said.
