Hyderabad saw tensions rise as BRS Working President KT Rama Rao issued a challenge to Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Wednesday. He invited Reddy to a public debate at the Medigadda barrage, which Reddy has claimed has “collapsed.”
During a meeting with the Dalit Bandhu Sadhana Samithi at Telangana Bhavan, Rama Rao questioned Reddy’s credibility and understanding. He urged, “If Revanth truly believes the barrage has collapsed, he should meet me there for a public discussion.” Rama Rao reminded that the BRS had previously invited Reddy for a debate, allowing him three days to prepare. “We were ready at the Press Club, but Revanth avoided it. He talks big but runs away when faced,” he criticized. Rama Rao insisted on having the debate at the Medigadda barrage instead of Nagarjunasagar, as Reddy had suggested.
Rama Rao noted that Jagadish Reddy, a senior BRS leader, had visited the Medigadda site and renewed the challenge. He dared, “If Revanth is brave enough, he should meet us there.” Rama Rao accused Reddy of spreading false information despite knowing that it was former CM K Chandrashekar Rao who ensured water for farmers in areas like Tungaturthi and Suryapet.
Criticizing further, Rama Rao condemned Reddy’s language, saying, “Revanth Reddy calls me a thief and uses undignified language when questioned about his election promises.” Rama Rao suggested that the people of Telangana will respond to this in the upcoming elections. Citing the Constitution, he said, “Dr BR Ambedkar never envisioned individuals like Revanth Reddy coming to power. The Constitution allows for a five-year term, but otherwise, such people would be removed.” Although Rama Rao expressed his distaste for abusive language in politics, he felt it was necessary with Reddy.
