KT Rama Rao, the BRS Working President, has responded to a request from the Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) regarding his mobile phone used during the Formula E race. He declared that this request breaches his constitutional rights and personal privacy. He also mentioned that he no longer possesses his old phones.
KTR explained that he switched his phone in early 2024 and doesn’t have any of the older devices. He stated that he only used his mobile phone, with no other electronics involved. On Wednesday, he sent a reply to the investigative agency.
The notice under Section 94 of the BNSS did not clarify why KTR needed to hand over his phone or other devices used between November 2021 and December 2023. He assured that all necessary documents related to the Formula Race case are with the state’s Municipal Administration Department. These actions were taken in his official role as Minister of Municipal Administration and Urban Development.
KTR emphasized that the complaint against him does not relate to past electronic devices. He argued that asking for these devices violates his constitutional rights as a citizen. There was no mention of why these devices are essential for the investigation.
He pointed out that if electronic devices are needed for an investigation, the Supreme Court's rules must be followed. KTR reminded that the Supreme Court mandates strict guidelines to prevent tampering with collected devices. Preserving personal privacy and the Right against Self-incrimination is crucial. These measures ensure that collected information is not misused without proper justification.
KTR also informed the ED, involved in the case, not to use or copy information from citizens’ phones. He noted that many cases involving electronic devices are still pending in court.
