Hyderabad – The State government may hold local body elections in July, even though the promised 42% reservation for Backward Classes (BCs) is not expected to be implemented by then.
After Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy's recent visit to Nagarkurnool, political circles are buzzing with talk of upcoming polls. Sources within the Congress party say the leadership is seriously considering this move. The party plans to highlight its ongoing development work and social welfare schemes as part of its election strategy.
A Congress spokesperson said the party made every effort to ensure BCs get fair representation before the elections. They said the BC caste census was a key step toward social justice. However, the party now wants to move forward with its development agenda. Major schemes like fine rice distribution and Indiramma Indlu housing for the poor will be at the center of their campaign.
Although the BC reservation resolution was passed in the Telangana Assembly, implementation at the national level still requires approval from the Union government and Parliament. Revanth Reddy has raised this issue multiple times in hopes of getting it cleared.
Meanwhile, the Congress leadership is working to strengthen its internal structure. It aims to resolve any ongoing issues within the party and energize its workers. The goal is to reach out to voters and build support by showcasing the government’s achievements.
During a recent review meeting in Nagarkurnool, the Chief Minister hinted that local elections could happen as early as July. He met with MLAs from the region, including Achampet MLA Vamsi Krishna, Wanaparthy MLA T Mega Reddy, and Kalwakurthy MLA Kasireddy Narayana Reddy. They discussed the progress of government schemes, public feedback, and the party’s overall performance.
As the elections draw closer, the Congress plans to focus on people-first policies and programs to win voter trust and secure a strong position in the upcoming polls.
