Gadwal – On Thursday, District Collector B.M. Santosh paid tribute to social reformer Bhagya Reddy Varma, urging everyone to follow his path of justice, equality, and education. The tribute took place at the District Collectorate during Varma’s birth anniversary celebration.
The Collector placed flowers before Varma’s portrait and spoke about his lasting impact. He called Bhagya Reddy Varma a true visionary who believed that education was the key to uplifting marginalized communities.
Varma’s efforts focused on improving lives, especially for the Dalit community. He opened schools to help Dalits gain knowledge, confidence, and a chance at a better future. His special focus on educating Dalit girls marked a major step toward gender equality at a time when their access to education was almost nonexistent.
“He gave Dalit girls a way to live with dignity by starting schools just for them,” said the Collector. He added that Varma fought against harmful practices like untouchability and the Devadasi system, and worked hard to build a more equal society.
Collector Santosh encouraged today’s youth to take inspiration from Varma’s life. He asked them to actively join efforts for social progress and help create a fairer world for all.
He also assured that the district administration is committed to delivering welfare and development programs to all eligible citizens without bias.
Several officials and community leaders attended the event, including Additional Collectors Lakshmi Narayana and Narsinga Rao, RDO Srinivasa Rao, Agriculture Officer Narender, BC Welfare Officer Ramesh Babu, SC Welfare Officer Saroj, and leaders from various community groups.
The ceremony was filled with respect and reflection. It served as a reminder of Bhagya Reddy Varma’s legacy and renewed the district’s commitment to social equality and educational empowerment.
