Gadwal, Telangana – District Collector B.M. Santosh has urged officials to speed up the movement of procured paddy to rice mills and protect the grain from unexpected rain using tarpaulins.
On Thursday, the Collector, along with Additional Collector Narsinga Rao, visited paddy procurement centers in Chenugonipalli and Guntipalli villages in Gadwal Mandal. These centers are operated under the guidance of the IKP (Indira Kranthi Patham) scheme.
During the inspection, the Collector checked several important activities. He looked into how the grain’s moisture levels were being measured, how lorries were being loaded, and how quickly data was being updated in the Online Procurement Management System (OPMS).
He warned officials to act fast. With the chance of unseasonal rain, paddy that’s ready should not be left at the collection centers. As soon as the moisture content drops to 17%, the paddy must be bagged, loaded, and sent off to rice mills. Until then, all bags must be covered well to avoid damage.
The Collector also highlighted the need for real-time data entry in OPMS. He told staff to keep proper records and make sure there’s no shortage of gunny bags, lorries, or laborers. Keeping extra tarpaulins ready is a must, he added.
“Once the truck is loaded, update OPMS immediately,” he said. “Also, ensure farmers are paid on time without any delays.”
During his visit, the Collector spoke directly with farmers. He asked about the services they were receiving and listened to their feedback.
Officials present included District Civil Supplies Manager Vimala, Additional DRDO Narsimhulu, local agriculture officers, APMs, and several farmers.
