Khammam, Telangana – Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka officially launched a major infrastructure project in Madhira town by performing the bhoomi puja for a new underground drainage system near the YSR statue.
This long-awaited project has received a budget of ₹128 crore. The funds are being provided by the Telangana Urban Finance Infrastructure Development Corporation. Bhatti said the goal is to upgrade basic civic facilities and improve living conditions for the residents of Madhira.
The project includes the construction of a 99.56-kilometer sewer network, which will connect 6,638 homes to the drainage system. In addition, four sewage treatment plants (STPs) will be built at key locations across the town.
A 5 MLD STP will come up on Rayapatnam Road at the site of the old dumping yard. The other STPs include a 0.9 MLD plant in Madupalli, a 0.4 MLD plant at Madhira Lake in Amberpet, and a 0.5 MLD plant near the Illandulapadu Sub-Registrar Office.
The plan also includes constructing major stormwater drains and RCC retaining walls to handle excess rainwater and prevent flooding.
Bhatti directed officials to install EMS equipment as part of the project and emphasized that all work should be completed within two years. He made it clear that the chosen construction firm must also maintain the system for five years after completion to ensure durability and service quality.
He stressed that there must be strict monitoring to maintain high construction standards. Once completed, the underground drainage system is expected to improve public health, reduce seasonal diseases, and boost sanitation and greenery in the area.
Several key figures, including Wyra MLA Malothu Ramdas Nayak, State Warehouses Corporation Chairman Rayala Nageswara Rao, Khammam RDO Narasimha Rao, and DCC President Puvvala Durga Prasad, were present to witness the start of this transformative project.
