Hyderabad: Senior leader of the BRS, B Vinod Kumar, stated on Wednesday that Maharashtra will not permit lifting Godavari waters from Tummidihatti at a height of 152 meters.

Vinod Kumar recalled that even when Congress governed Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, and Delhi, an agreement at 152 meters could not be reached. He mentioned that Devendra Fadnavis, the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, would not agree to this height.

At a press conference held at Telangana Bhavan, Vinod Kumar highlighted that Irrigation Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy mentioned during a review at Jala Soudha that repairs at Medigadda, Annaram, and Sundilla barrages would start after the rainy season. Vinod emphasized the urgency of these repairs, stating that only Medigadda needs them, while Annaram and Sundilla may not. He added that lifting water from Tummidihatti is essential since gravity transfer isn’t feasible, requiring two lifts.

Vinod Kumar explained that the NDSA Act holds the owner accountable for project issues. He noted that a commission report discussed in the Assembly revealed that only three pillars of Medigadda collapsed. He suggested that transferring water from Tummidihatti to Yellampally would be beneficial, but a lift is necessary. However, CM Revanth Reddy disagrees, stating a lift isn’t needed. Vinod Kumar concluded that a project at 152 meters near Tummidihatti is unachievable.
