Hyderabad: Tummala Nageswara Rao, the Agriculture Minister of Telangana, has promised that farmers will pay back their loans no matter what. He encouraged banks to provide necessary credit to help the farming community.
At the NABARD 44th Foundation Day event, the Minister urged banks to invest in areas showing growth potential, whether in agriculture or related fields. He also asked for better facilities for Agriculture and Horticulture Universities in Telangana. He praised NABARD for helping with 30 medium irrigation projects that were stuck due to lack of funds.
B Uday Bhaskar, Chief General Manager of NABARD, highlighted that this year’s Foundation Day is special as NABARD marks ten years of improving rural lives in Telangana. He shared that NABARD provided Rs 9,673 Crore as refinance support for Self-Help Groups (SHGs). They are also promoting natural farming through the JIVA programme.
M Ravindar Rao, President of the Telangana State Cooperative Apex Bank (TGCAB), talked about various initiatives in the Cooperative Sector with NABARD’s support. He noted that Rs 200 Crore has been allocated to strengthen Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS), allowing them to build facilities like godowns and petrol stations. Surendra Mohan, IAS, Registrar of Cooperative Societies, confirmed the state government’s focus on rural development and the progress of women and farmers.
