Minister Dharmendra Pradhan opens GYSC at IIT-H

Hyderabad: Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan spoke about the theme of India’s G20 Presidency, “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam,” which focuses on India’s ancient tradition of knowledge rooted in curiosity, sustainability, and ethics.

On Tuesday, Pradhan was the chief guest at the opening of the Global Young Scientists Annual General Body Meeting, hosted by IIT Hyderabad, marking its first occurrence in India.

The conference featured lively discussions on topics like Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG), Health and Nutrition for Global Wellness, Industry 5.0, and Innovation and Entrepreneurship.

Pradhan highlighted India’s scientific heritage and achievements in space, food security, automation, robotics, and big data. He emphasized the need for inclusivity in the digital realm, showcasing India’s development of digital infrastructure and benefit systems that positively impact lives.

The minister stressed the importance of global solidarity, or “Vishwa Bandhutva,” through scientific collaboration, mentioning initiatives like the Atal Tinkering Labs that support innovation and research.

Pradhan praised India’s adaptable education system and noted the value of cross-cultural learning and talent exchange. He described science as vital to the vision of “Viksit Bharat,” combining economic and scientific growth.

Professor Ashutosh Sharma, President of the Indian National Science Academy, spoke about the future’s reliance on decision-making integrating sciences and social sciences. He urged global cooperation to solve world challenges and highlighted the need for diversity, inclusion, and globalisation in science and technology.

Sharma advocated for empowering youth by aligning their aspirations with policy and practice, crediting India’s global progress to citizen and government collaboration. He called for a new academic order led by young scientific academies worldwide.

Yensi Flores Bueso, Co-chair of the Global Young Academy (GYA), discussed GYA’s mission and activities in leadership, networking, and capacity building.

Dr. B V R Mohan Reddy, Chairman of IIT Hyderabad’s Board of Governors, emphasized global thinking and leadership for national issues. He stated science should benefit humanity and highlighted the impact of the New Education Policy and public-private collaboration on shaping an innovative future.

Prof B S Murty, Director of IIT Hyderabad, expressed pride in hosting the event, emphasizing the importance of interdisciplinary research for global challenges. He affirmed IIT Hyderabad’s dedication to advancing science and technology for societal and planetary betterment.

Prof Chandra Shekhar Sharma, Co-Chair of the Conference, highlighted the conference theme, “Confluence of Visionaries: Empowering Science for Global Change,” as a commitment to tackling global issues through interdisciplinary research and leadership, positioning India as a key player in this effort.
