Hyderabad: On Tuesday, Health Minister C Damodar Raja Narsimha instructed officials to develop plans for updating hospitals under Osmania Hospital. He also emphasized the construction of new buildings for both the ENT Hospital and the dental hospital associated with Osmania. Raja Narsimha highlighted a unique aspect of Osmania Medical College. Unlike other medical colleges with only a couple of affiliated hospitals, Osmania boasts 10.
In addition to Osmania Hospital, Osmania Medical College is linked with Niloufer Hospital, Sarojini Devi Eye Hospital, MNJ Cancer Hospital, TB and Chest Hospital, Institute of Mental Health, Sultan Bazaar Maternity Hospital, Petlaburju Maternity Hospital, ENT Hospital, and Fever Hospital. The minister noted that these facilities once played a crucial role in saving lives across Andhra, Telangana, and Karnataka. Collectively, they offer over 5,000 beds and serve thousands of patients in various specialties.
The minister urged that these historically significant hospitals should be refurbished to their former excellence. He stressed the importance of diligent efforts from everyone involved. During a review meeting at the Secretariat, the minister discussed the teaching hospitals linked to Osmania Medical College, focusing on enhancing facilities and addressing other concerns.
Officials updated the minister on the hospitals’ performance, patient services, achievements, and challenges. The minister assured that the government is committed to reviving the hospitals’ reputation and upgrading facilities to meet current demands, urging officials to work earnestly.
He instructed Health Secretary Christina Z Chongtu and Medical Education Director Narendra Kumar to draft proposals for the modernization of these hospitals.
