Komati Reddy Venkat Reddy, the Minister for State Roads, Buildings, and Cinematography, held a teleconference with officials from the Roads and Buildings department. He wanted updates on the damage caused by recent heavy rains throughout the state. The meeting focused on the conditions of roads, culverts, and bridges affected by the weather.
Officials from the department reported that 739 roads have been damaged, covering a total of 854 kilometers. In 25 spots where roads were cut off, temporary repairs are complete in 5 locations. Flooding has impacted 310 causeways and culverts, with 228 needing diversions. Efforts are underway to ease vehicle movement at 175 of the 232 difficult spots.
Minister Reddy stressed the importance of quick temporary repairs to keep public transport running smoothly. He also instructed the creation of plans for permanent fixes. The cost for temporary repairs is about ₹46 crores, while permanent solutions may need ₹984 crores.
The Minister commended the R&B officers, who have been on high alert as instructed. A team of four officials, led by State Roads CEO Mohan Nayak, monitors the situation around the clock. Minister Reddy praised their dedication during this emergency.
Discussions also covered the need for quick action to clear traffic in affected areas. Insights on State National Highways were provided by Engineer-in-Chief Jaya Bharathi and C.E. Rajeshwar Reddy during the meeting.
