Muktikanta Biswal, a social activist from Rourkela, has decided to go on strike from Gandhi Jayanti at the Deo river site. He is demanding the early completion of the bridge over the river. The Rural Development department started building the bridge on June 30, 2018, but it is yet to be completed. The deadline was June 29, 2020. Around 20,000 people in the area have been waiting for the bridge to be finished. However, work on the bridge has stopped for the past year. The construction began hurriedly before the 2019 election without proper land acquisition and compensation for landowners. As a result, people have to walk through the river and dangerously climb a temporary ladder onto the partly completed bridge.
