Hyderabad: On Monday, Sri Chaitanya Junior College hosted a workshop dedicated to making clay Ganesha idols. This event promoted using natural materials for the upcoming Ganesh Chaturthi festival.
Approximately 50 female students participated eagerly. Experienced artisans guided them through the process, teaching them each step clearly.
The workshop was both fun and educational. Students not only enjoyed creating idols but also learned the value of eco-friendly practices. They felt a sense of pride in crafting idols themselves.
Participants became aware of the environmental issues caused by immersing POP idols, which harm aquatic life due to chemical paints. They were encouraged to dissolve the clay idols in flower pots, buckets, water drums, or garden soil after the festival.
The event was organized by Sergeant Khyathi Nannapaneni as part of her community development training with the NCC. It was supported by the Rotary Club of Greater Hyderabad and the Principal and Vice-Principal of the college. Sergeant Khyathi emphasized that eco-friendly celebrations honor the festival’s original spirit.
