Hyderabad: Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Hyderabad (JNTU-H) has taken steps to tackle the issue of high fees being charged by affiliated colleges. The university has urged college principals to address student complaints about this matter.
Dr. K Venkateswara Rao, the Registrar, sent a letter to all private unaided colleges linked with JNTU-H. He stressed the importance of following the fee guidelines set by the State government.
This action comes after a complaint by D Rakesh and Hanumanth Naik about colleges not complying with Government Order Ms No 37, dated October 18, 2022. A meeting at the NCST Court Hall in New Delhi was attended by key officials, including the Registrar, the Director of Autonomous College Affairs, and the Principal of JBIET. They emphasized the necessity of following fee regulations.
Jatothu Hussain, from the National Commission for Scheduled Tribes (NCST), led the meeting. It was highlighted that universities like JNTU, Osmania, and Kakatiya must ensure their engineering colleges comply with the approved fee structure. Colleges that do not comply risk being blacklisted, and their management might face severe penalties from the Higher Education Department.
The NCST has instructed universities to examine fee violations by private engineering colleges over the past five years. They must also ensure that any student certificates held by these colleges are returned. The Vice-Chancellor has been asked to ensure that all associated college principals adhere to government and university fee collection rules.
Colleges are warned not to withhold student certificates after course completion. Any college breaching these rules will face strict actions as per university regulations.
