The Regional Passport Office (RPO)-Vijayawada, currently located in Visakhapatnam, will be moved to Governorpet in Vijayawada in January 2024, according to Regional Passport Officer K Shiva Harsha. This relocation will benefit applicants as it will reduce waiting times and allow for printing to be done in the city. Previously, individuals had to go to Visakhapatnam for any issues related to passports. The move will particularly benefit the people of Rayalaseema, as Vijayawada is closer to them than Visakhapatnam. The Passport Seva Kendra in Vijayawada currently receives around 2,000 applications per day, with the number of applications for new passports increasing significantly post-Covid. As of October, 3 lakh passports have been issued.
