Rangareddy district in Telangana is preparing for upcoming gram panchayat elections. Officials from the Election Commission are focused on securing Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) stored in specific locations.
On Tuesday, State Deputy Chief Electoral Officer B Hari Singh visited the EVM strong room at the MRO office in Rajendranagar. He was joined by Additional District Collector Pratima Singh. They checked the arrangements and spoke with officials about the safety measures for the EVMs. Hari Singh emphasized the importance of taking all necessary steps to protect these machines. After the inspection, the storeroom was sealed with representatives from various political parties present. RDO Rajendranagar Venkatreddy, storeroom in-charge B Ramulu, and other officials attended.
This visit followed a meeting led by State Chief Electoral Officer C Sudarshan Reddy. In a video conference with collectors, he advised issuing identification cards to Booth Level Officers (BLOs) by June 25.
The Chief Electoral Officer also called for new polling stations in areas where voter numbers exceed 1,200. Previously, a new station required 1,500 voters. Now, even with fewer than 1,200 voters, new stations will be set up. Lists of these stations should reach the Collectors by June 25.
Additionally, new booth level officers should be appointed as needed. Preference should be given to locals, but if unavailable, Anganwadi workers may be considered.
