Osmania General Hospital in Hyderabad recently achieved a milestone by successfully performing two liver transplant surgeries in just five days. The patients were discharged after making a satisfactory recovery.
The first patient, Matla Sindhuja, a 15-year-old girl from Hanamkonda district, was admitted on February 20 and underwent the liver transplant surgery on February 22. She was discharged on March 4. Sindhuja had chronic liver failure due to Wilson’s disease, a genetic disorder causing excess copper accumulation in the liver. Her surgery involved receiving a liver from a brain dead donor at OGH.
The second patient, Merugu Vaishnavi, a 13-year-old girl from Yadadri district, was admitted on February 27 for chronic liver failure caused by an autoimmune disease. Her liver transplant surgery took place on February 27 using a liver from an 11-year-old brain dead donor from a corporate hospital. Vaishnavi was discharged on March 8.
The Superintendent of OGH, Dr. B Nagendar, commended the medical staff for their dedicated work in providing care to the patients and successfully performing complex procedures. He specifically mentioned Dr. Madhusudan and Dr. Pandunaik from the surgical gastro-enterology department, as well as Dr. Pavani and Dr. Madhavi from the anesthesia department.
Dr. B Triveni and Dr. B Sheshadri, along with other medical officers, also praised the entire team for their efforts. Dr. Nagendar encouraged the public to utilize government hospitals like OGH for treatments such as liver transplantation surgeries, which are provided free of cost and can be very expensive in private hospitals. He expressed satisfaction with the recovery of both patients and applauded the teams for their commitment to excellent patient care.
