The city is working hard to improve its infrastructure, keeping future needs in mind. A new flyover, costing Rs 178 crore, will open in early June. This flyover connects the Outer Ring Road (ORR) to Kondapur and aims to reduce traffic at Gachibowli Junction, enhancing travel through Hyderabad’s IT corridor.
Part of the Strategic Road Development Programme (SRDP), this six-lane flyover stretches 1.2 km and is 24 meters wide. It is unique because it is the third level built above two existing flyovers at this location: the Gachibowli Junction Flyover and the Shilpa Layout Phase 1 Flyover.
This new structure is expected to significantly cut down traffic jams at Gachibowli Junction. It will help drivers move more smoothly from ORR to Kondapur and Hafeezpet, reducing travel time and avoiding common bottlenecks.
Travel between Kondapur and Shamshabad Airport will also become more convenient. The flyover offers a quicker, less crowded route to the financial district and HITEC City.
The GHMC officials pushed the construction forward, despite earlier delays. The project is almost finished, with plans for CM Revanth Reddy to open it. This launch is a big step forward for Hyderabad’s infrastructure, according to an official.
Commissioner RV Karnan visited the site several times to ensure progress and urged engineers to speed up work.
This is the 23rd flyover under the SRDP, designed to provide signal-free travel and ease congestion in Hyderabad. Out of 42 planned projects, 37 are now complete with this addition. The GHMC commissioner aims to finish the Falaknuma and Shastripuram Railway Over Bridges (ROBs) by July and August.
For the H-City project, the government allocated Rs 7,032 crore for 58 city infrastructure projects. These include 28 flyovers, 13 underpasses, four ROBs, three RuBs, and 10 road widening efforts. Tenders are set, and several projects will start in June.
