Hyderabad: B Mahesh Kumar Goud, the PCC president, stated that someone from the Backward Classes might become the next Chief Minister of Telangana. He praised current CM A Revanth Reddy for leading the party to power, a success recognized by the AICC.
At Gandhi Bhavan, during a media chat, Goud mentioned that the Congress aims to stay in power for the next two terms. He dismissed rumors of any conflict with the Chief Minister, especially regarding the padayatra. Goud described these rumors as opposition propaganda. He emphasized his and Revanth Reddy’s joint efforts to implement 42% reservations for BCs and confirmed their strong relationship. Goud defended Reddy’s statement about serving as CM for 10 years, saying it was intended to build public trust in Congress. He noted changes in Reddy’s behavior since becoming CM, highlighting his transformation from his time as PCC president. The Janahita Padayatra, which had a positive response in its first phase, will restart after August 23. Goud reiterated that a BC leader could be the next CM and refuted claims of discord with CM Reddy.
Goud did not explain the delay of the padayatra until August 23 but clarified it was his original idea. He accused certain interests of wrongly attributing it to AICC incharge Meenakshi Natarajan.
Originally planned as a bus tour, the party switched it to a padayatra. Goud claimed the Janahita Padayatra, much like the Bharat Jodo Yatra, was highly successful. He is hopeful that not only the CM but also Deputy CM Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka and Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, might join future stages of the yatra.
