Gadwal: The Priyadarshini Jurala Project (PJP) Dam is a key water source in southern Telangana. As of 6:00 AM on June 20, 2025, water levels are stable, with moderate inflows, according to the irrigation department.
The water level is currently at 317.440 meters (1,041.470 feet), which is 1.076 meters below the Full Reservoir Level of 318.516 meters. The dam can hold a total of 7.535 TMC, with a live storage capacity of 3.828 TMC. Right now, about 50.8% of this capacity is being used, showing a solid water reserve as the monsoon begins.
The dam is managing inflows and outflows well, with 46,674 cusecs coming in and 44,776 cusecs going out. Most of the incoming water is directed to lift irrigation schemes and downstream requirements.
Out of the total outflows, 7,124 cusecs are discharged through the spillway, 35,366 cusecs are used for power generation, and 65 cusecs are lost to evaporation.
For lift irrigation, 1,500 cusecs go to the Nettampadu Lift Irrigation Scheme, 406 cusecs to Bhima Lift-I, and 315 cusecs to Koilsagar Lift. There are no withdrawals from the Left Main Canal, Right Main Canal, parallel canal, or Bhima Lift-II, indicating either the completion of sowing or a strategy to save water for future monsoon inflows.
The PJP Dam’s operations show effective water management, supporting both electricity production and farming irrigation with minimal waste. As monsoon rains increase inflows, managing the PJP Dam remains crucial for agriculture, power supply, and regional water security. Continuous monitoring will be vital in the coming weeks to handle potential floods or changes in irrigation needs.
