In Hyderabad, officers from the Elite Action Group for Drug Law Enforcement (EAGLE) captured three men from Rajasthan for possessing 3.2 kg of opium (Afeem). The seized drugs are worth Rs 17 lakh. The arrested men, Savlaram Bishnoi (43), Hapuram Bishnoi (38), and Lalaram Bishnoi (41), all come from Jalore District. They earned Rs 4 lakh for each kilogram of opium sold.
Police reports indicate a significant presence of people from Rajasthan in Telangana, and drug traffickers have been targeting this community with opium and amphetamine drugs. EAGLE tracked a minor lead for 45 days before getting actionable information. Savlaram and his brother Gangaram moved to Hyderabad around 2008-2009 for work and began selling opium due to its demand among the Rajasthani community. Savlaram has used opium for 20 years.
In 2019, Gangaram was caught with 3.4 kg of opium by Bowenpally Police. Afterwards, he returned to Rajasthan to help Savlaram secure and transport the drug to Hyderabad. Hapuram, a relative, joined the operation for a commission, while Lalaram helped store and transport the drugs. A month ago, Savlaram gave 3.25 kg of opium to Lalaram. On Thursday, while the three waited in Bowenpally to sell the drugs, EAGLE apprehended them.
