Hyderabad: The Cyberabad police have sent a notice to senior IAS officer Smita Sabharwal for sharing an AI-generated image on social media. The image was related to the ongoing Kancha Gachibowli land issue in Hyderabad.

Smita Sabharwal had reposted the image on March 31. The AI-generated picture showed bulldozers parked on land near the University of Hyderabad. The land in question has been the center of a controversy.

The police served the notice under Section 179 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). They stated that the image shared by the officer was connected to a case already under investigation. The case involves spreading false information through edited images and videos on social media.

In the notice, the Gachibowli police said that the officer had reposted such content on her verified X (formerly Twitter) account. They asked her to meet with the investigation officer at a place of her choice to share any details she might have about the case.

This action is part of a broader crackdown by Telangana police. Authorities are investigating several social media users who allegedly shared fake pictures and videos using AI. These posts falsely claimed that green areas on the 400-acre land near the university were being destroyed.
