Hyderabad: Quick action prevented a possible stampede during celebrations for Royal Challengers Bengaluru's first IPL title win near the state Secretariat on June 3, according to Hyderabad police.

Fans across Hyderabad took to the streets to celebrate RCB's victory, but chaos erupted near the Secretariat. Police had to deploy additional forces and used mild force to control the disorderly crowd.

The celebration drew over 20,000 people from Secretariat Road to IMAX circle, causing a massive traffic jam. Ambulances were stuck, and the public faced difficulties. The Hyderabad City Police acted swiftly to prevent a stampede and protect lives. They emphasized their commitment to public safety in a post on 'X'.

Hyderabad Police Commissioner CV Anand commented on the situation, questioning the fervor for a non-local franchise like RCB. He noted the unruly behavior on Tank Bund, NTR Marg, and Necklace Road, which led to traffic jams. Police had to conduct a lathi charge to disperse the crowd.

Anand expressed concerns about unplanned street gatherings posing risks to public safety, similar to recent events in Bangalore. He stressed the need for police vigilance in light of social media’s influence.

On Tuesday night, numerous youths celebrated RCB's win by setting off firecrackers and blocking roads. ACP Sanjay Kumar mentioned that police intervened to prevent a major incident. Similar scenes were reported in Kukatpally, with youths climbing onto lorries and dancing on the streets.

The disruptions in traffic caused by the celebrations led police to disperse the crowds. Royal Challengers Bengaluru won against Punjab Kings by six runs to claim their first IPL title in Ahmedabad.
