Gadwal: The largest teachers’ union in Telangana, the Progressive Recognized Teachers Union of Telangana State (PRTU–TS), is pushing hard to eliminate the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS). They unveiled the CPS Abolition Maha Dharna poster at the Mandal Resource Centre (MRC) in Aiza on Saturday as part of their statewide campaign.
The major protest, Maha Dharna, is scheduled for September 1, 2025, at Indira Park, Hyderabad. Led by the PRTU–TS State Committee, it aims to gather a large crowd of teachers and employees under CPS from across Telangana, making it a significant event for pension rights.
During the poster release, District President Pacharla Thimmareddy and District General Secretary B.N. Venugopal criticized CPS as a “confusing and insecure scheme” that endangers employees’ futures. They reminded the ruling Congress Party of its election promise to abolish CPS and urged them to act swiftly.
“Pension is an employee’s right, not charity,” the leaders declared. “CPS must end, and the Old Pension Scheme (OPS) should return for retirees’ security.”
To rally support for the Maha Dharna, PRTU–TS outlined several district-level protests:
- August 26 & 27: Submitting demands to local MLAs to end CPS.
- August 28: Holding candlelight rallies at district centers.
- August 29: Organizing bike rallies with OPS slogans.
The union also asked every CPS employee attending the Hyderabad Maha Dharna on September 1st to wear black—men in black shirts or T-shirts, women in black sarees or churidars—to symbolize protest.
Union leaders urged all CPS employees to join and strengthen the movement. They reaffirmed their stance: “CPS End – PRTU’s Stand. No CPS – We want OPS.”
The poster release event saw participation from Aiza Mandal President R. Shiva Shankar Reddy, Mandal General Secretary K. Balakrishna, State Associate President D. Abel, District Associate President M. Ravi, and other union leaders and teachers.
The leaders expressed confidence that the Maha Dharna will be a “historic struggle” for employees in Telangana, sending a clear message to the government for the urgent abolition of CPS.
