Hyderabad: Police in Rachakonda have arrested four individuals for running an interstate horse betting operation. Officers from the Special Operations Team (SOT) in Malkajgiri and Jawahar Nagar conducted the arrests on Sunday. They seized cash totaling Rs 2 lakh and froze a bank account containing Rs 2.47 lakh.
The arrested suspects include Thakala Nagesh (45), Barra Venkaiah Chowdhary (45), Challa Ramesh Babu (48), and D Sunil (55). Two others, M Rajesh Kumar and Venkat Chowdhary, are still on the run.
The police revealed that Nagesh, originally from Andhra Pradesh, coordinated the betting activities with Venkat and Rajesh. A Ramana Reddy, Deputy Commissioner of Police, stated that Nagesh had formed a WhatsApp group called ‘Shinewell Enterprises’ involving 105 participants for the betting.
Investigations uncovered that the group handled transactions amounting to Rs 8.34 crore. Authorities have charged the detainees under section 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and section 344 of the Telangana Gaming Act. While Rs 2 lakh was confiscated, efforts continue to locate the two missing suspects.
