Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has criticized the ruling BJP and its ideological partner RSS, saying they are harming the nation’s religious freedom and the Constitution.
Speaking at the 84th Congress plenary session in Ahmedabad on Wednesday, Gandhi told party workers that protecting the Constitution and Congress values is a shared duty. He accused the BJP of trying to break down the principles that Congress helped build.
Gandhi said the Constitution is more than just a document written 75 years ago. He described it as the voice of India, shaped by leaders like Mahatma Gandhi, Nehru, Ambedkar, Sardar Patel, Kabir, and Guru Nanak. He stressed that it reflects India’s long-standing belief in inclusion and justice.
Focusing on social equality, Gandhi repeated his support for better representation of marginalized groups such as Other Backward Classes (OBCs), Dalits, Adivasis, and minorities. He praised the caste census recently done in Telangana, calling it a step forward and said the Congress party will push for a similar census across the country.
He explained that the Telangana caste census revealed how OBCs, Dalits, and Adivasis are underrepresented in government roles. He said this imbalance shows a larger problem, where 90 percent of the population does not get fair representation.
Gandhi called Telangana’s caste census a national example and promised that Congress will keep fighting for social justice in all parts of India. He asked party members for their active support, saying, “Can Bharat Jodo Yatra succeed without your support?”
He also talked about a recent incident in Rajasthan, where a Dalit Congress leader was reportedly not allowed to enter a temple. Gandhi condemned the act and promised that Congress will continue to protect the dignity of all marginalized communities.
His comments come at a time when political discussions about social justice and the Constitution are growing ahead of the next elections.
