At a recent Congress party meeting, senior leader Rahul Gandhi spoke about the importance of protecting the rights of OBCs (Other Backward Classes), Dalits, and minority communities in India. He said that the only way to truly understand how many people belong to these groups is by conducting a caste census.
Gandhi criticized the BJP and RSS, saying they are against this kind of census. He believes that without proper data, these communities will continue to be left out of important decisions.
Focusing on the state of Telangana, Gandhi said that nearly 90% of the population belongs to OBCs, Dalits, and minorities. However, he pointed out that the wealth in the state is mostly controlled by powerful business groups, not by the majority of the people. He said that this is unfair and needs to change.
He also accused the BJP government of canceling the SC/ST Sub-Plan, which was meant to support Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes. He called for the removal of the 50% limit on reservations, asking why there should be a cap when it’s about fairness and equal rights.
Rahul Gandhi also criticized the Modi government over its policies affecting young people. He mentioned the Agniveer scheme, saying it is unfair to young people who want stable jobs in the armed forces.
On international topics, he said Prime Minister Modi did not speak up when former U.S. President Donald Trump imposed economic tariffs on India. According to Gandhi, Modi stayed silent even though these actions hurt India’s economy.
In conclusion, Rahul Gandhi said that the Congress party believes in fairness, equal opportunity, and development for all. He stressed that this can only happen if there is transparency and proper representation, which is why a caste census is so important.
