Gadwal: On Sunday, tensions rose in Jogulamba Gadwal district due to comments allegedly made by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi about Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s mother during the Bihar election campaign.
At Erravalli Crossroads, BJP leaders led by Mandal President Jagadish Reddy expressed their anger. Former BJP District President S. Ramachandra Reddy criticized the Congress, saying they lack respect for women. He found Rahul Gandhi’s remarks “highly objectionable” and an insult.
“Congress leaders don’t respect women. Rahul Gandhi’s comments are unacceptable. We demand an apology from him,” said Ramachandra Reddy on behalf of BJP Jogulamba Gadwal.
He also accused the Congress of using harsh tactics, claiming police were arresting BJP workers to prevent protests. “Congress is repeating past mistakes. They will face consequences in upcoming elections,” he said.
BJP members planned to burn Rahul Gandhi’s effigies statewide. In Aiza municipality, when BJP leaders gathered, police detained Aiza Town BJP President Kompati Bhagat Reddy at his home in Bharat Nagar to stop the protest.
Local leaders opposed the detention, stating it hindered their right to protest.
BJP leaders highlighted four main points in their protests:
- Rahul Gandhi’s remarks upset many people nationwide.
- Congress must take responsibility.
- An unconditional public apology from Rahul Gandhi and Congress is necessary.
- Future elections will reflect public disapproval if they don’t apologize.
Several prominent leaders participated, including State Council Member Bandala Venkata Ramulu, District General Secretary K.K. Reddy, District Executive Member Ramakrishna, District Council Member Srinivasa Reddy, and many others.
