Hyderabad: BRS MLA Kotha Prabhakar Reddy stirred up a political controversy on Tuesday after claiming that real estate developers and industrialists were ready to spend large sums of money to remove the current Congress government. He said they were so unhappy with the government that they were willing to buy support from Congress MLAs. However, after his comments spread widely, he took them back.
Reddy, who is close to BRS leader K Chandrashekar Rao (KCR), said that these business groups had suffered big losses under the Congress government. He added that people across all age groups were fed up with the current leadership, calling it ineffective. According to him, the public wanted a change, and these groups were even willing to fund efforts to remove the government. He also expressed confidence that BRS would return to power soon.
Following these statements, government ministers strongly criticized Reddy and the BRS. Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy accused Kotha Prabhakar Reddy of speaking on behalf of KCR. He alleged that BRS leaders had illegally grabbed large areas of land using the Dharani land registration system and now feared losing them under the Congress rule, which was why they were making such statements.
Later, Kotha Prabhakar Reddy clarified his remarks, saying he never directly called for the government’s removal. He explained that he only discussed the concerns shared by different sections of society during a party meeting. He confirmed his loyalty to KCR, saying all BRS members support their leader. He also mentioned that KCR himself had said the Congress should be allowed to rule for five years, as public dissatisfaction during that time would help BRS win future elections.
