Hyderabad faces a serious issue with overflowing drainage in areas like Shalibanda and Charminar. For several months, locals have struggled daily with this problem.
Residents in Shalibanda, Qazipura, Himmatpura, and nearby places have criticized officials for not addressing the persistent sewage overflow. Despite complaints, the situation remains unresolved.
Mohammed Ahmed, a spokesperson for the TDP Minority, highlighted the difficulties residents face due to the drainage issues. He explained that whenever it rains, the drains overflow, leaving dirty water on the roads. This makes the roads slippery and dirty, affecting both locals and pedestrians. The overflow even reaches religious sites, causing inconvenience to those attending prayers.
Locals are frustrated with the delay in resolving this issue. The stagnant sewage creates hazardous conditions and becomes a breeding ground for mosquitoes. Sewage water collects in front of homes, making travel difficult. During rains, sludge spreads across roads, causing a foul smell that residents have to endure. They question why authorities haven’t acted despite the persistent problem.
Prakash, a resident of Qazipura, expressed his helplessness. He mentioned that sewage overflow is a regular issue, especially during rains, with dirty water remaining stagnant for days. He urged for a permanent solution.
Residents reported the issue to GHMC and HMWSSB, but officials seem unconcerned, engaging instead in a blame game. Locals demand urgent action to resolve the drainage overflow problem.
