The head of the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC), A Revanth Reddy, became emotional while speaking to the press at Bhagyalakshmi temple in Hyderabad on Saturday. This followed allegations made by BJP leader Eatala Rajendar that the TPCC had accepted Rs 25 Crore from the BRS party during a recent assembly bye-election. Reddy had previously challenged Rajendar to repeat the allegations in front of the god at the temple.
The TPCC leader offered prayers before addressing reporters, saying that he had never been bought and would never be. He also spoke of his fight against corruption within the KCR government and his determination to see it removed from power. Reddy accused Rajendar of acting on behalf of Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao and suggested that the BJP and BRS may form an alliance before or after the forthcoming elections.
In response, Rajendar denied any intention of running away from the issue, stating that he had made the allegations in response to a question from a journalist regarding the Singareni issue. He clarified that he had only referred to the defection of 12 Congress MLAs to BRS and had not accused Reddy of anything directly. Rajendar also criticized Reddy for swearing in front of the god and using it for political purposes.
